Assistant Gift Shop Manager (Part-Time)
Reports To: Executive Director and Gallery Manager Compensation: $13.50–$16.00 per hour, depending on experience, dependability, and demonstrated performance Schedule: Part-time
Position Summary
The Assistant Gift Shop Manager plays an important role in creating a welcoming and engaging retail experience for visitors to the Salina Art Center. This position assists with the daily operation of the Gift Shop, supports staff scheduling, maintains inventory and the point-of-sale system, and helps ensure the shop remains organized, attractive, and customer-focused. The ideal candidate is dependable, organized, self-motivated, and enjoys working with the public.
Schedule Requirements
This position requires a consistent schedule that includes:
· Two weekdays each week from 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
· Two weekends each month:
o Saturday: 10:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.
o Sunday: 10:00 a.m. – 2:00 p.m.
Additional hours may be available during special events, exhibition openings, and holiday shopping periods.
Essential Responsibilities
· Provide outstanding customer service to all visitors and shoppers.
· Assist with staff scheduling and daily operational coordination.
· Maintain accurate inventory records and assist with ordering and merchandising.
· Operate and maintain the point-of-sale (POS) system, including product setup, pricing updates, and troubleshooting routine issues.
· Maintain the Gift Shop calendar, including vendor deliveries, promotions, and special events.
· Assist with rental inquiries, sales, and scheduling.
· Help create attractive merchandise displays and seasonal merchandising.
· Perform light cleaning and routine maintenance to keep the Gift Shop clean, organized, and inviting.
· Assist with opening and closing procedures.
· Support exhibitions, special events, and community programs as needed.
· Perform other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
· Excellent customer service and communication skills.
· Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
· Dependable with a proven record of punctuality and reliability.
· Comfortable learning retail software and point-of-sale systems.
· Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment.
· Basic computer proficiency.
· Ability to lift up to 30 pounds and remain on your feet for extended periods.
· Retail, museum, gallery, or customer service experience is preferred but not required.
