The City of Salina is seeking a skilled & experienced Street Foreman to oversee essential public works projects, including new construction, street repairs, & infrastructure maintenance. This leadership role involves supervising crews, scheduling projects, & operating a variety of heavy equipment. The ideal candidate will have a Kansas CDL Class B with air brakes & tanker endorsements along with at least three years of relevant experience in street construction & repair. This is a hands-on position offering competitive pay & the opportunity to make a direct impact on the community’s infrastructure.

Duties: Supervises new construction, street & structural repairs; plans, schedules & assigns crews & equipment to various facilities, construction, repair & maintenance projects; participates in special construction projects, snow & ice removal operations, storm water maintenance projects & flood control work; performs a variety skilled labor in the maintenance & repair of streets, sidewalks, curbs & gutters & other projects; operates light, medium & heavy equipment; operates tractors, backhoes, loaders, jackhammers & concrete saws; ensures safety equipment is set up correctly at work sites, including signs, barricades, lights & barrels; maintains facilities, equipment & tools; assists in employee training, evaluations, promotions & implementation of disciplinary actions; ensures employees are qualified & knowledgeable in their roles & makes assignments according to employees’ skill sets; ensures the health & safety of employees, motorists & pedestrians within work areas; responds to emergencies & determines corrective action; calls out emergency crews.

Education: High school diploma or G.E.D.

Experience: Three (3) years of progressively responsible work in construction, maintenance & repair of streets, facilities, other infrastructure, or similar work; two (2) years supervising or serving in a lead role within work crews.

Requirements: Must live within 40 minutes response time; must possess a valid Kansas CDL Class B driver’s license with air brakes & tanker endorsements.

Work Type: Very heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or in excess of 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or in excess of 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Hours: Workweek Monday-Friday, 7:30 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.

Starting pay: $23.07-24.22/hr. DOQ EOE
• Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.

Paid Time Off:
• 48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
• 96 hours of sick leave during first year.
