On-the-Job Training: Training for the Park Technician is provided by experienced staff, helping our new employee to quickly learn essential skills for tree trimming, safe equipment use, & best maintenance practices. This training includes hands-on experience with tools like chainsaws & tractors, under the guidance of seasoned employees who share their knowledge & expertise. Our new Park Technician will work alongside team leaders to participate in special projects & learn to handle emergency situations, such as weather-related assignments. This learning environment promotes growth & offers a foundation for a long & promising career in urban forestry.
Duties:
· Trims trees in parks & rights-of-way using chainsaws, manual saws, man-lift trucks, & vehicles.
· Operates tractors & attachments such as medium-sized loaders, skid steers, & other equipment.
· Performs routine preventative equipment maintenance & safety inspections; services & performs minor repairs to equipment including chain saws, pole saws, chippers, & blowers.
· Leads work crews & maintains records of activities & routine operational records; assists other staff as necessary; interacts with the public.
· Works on special projects & assignments.
· Responds to weather & other emergencies.
Education:
· High school diploma or G.E.D.
· Field of study in horticulture or arborist certification, or one (1) year work experience in the areas of general tree trimming or tree removal.
Experience:
· One (1) year of work in general tree trimming or tree removal.
Related Work: Arborist, Facility Maintenance Worker, Groundskeeper, Horticulturist, Property Maintenance Technician, & Tree Care Technician.
Requirements: Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.
Work Type:
· Heavy, exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
· Demanding manual labor performed daily.
· Works outside in various weather conditions.
Machines, Tools, & Equipment: Backhoe, chain saw, chipper, dump truck, grapple truck, hand & power tools, man-lift, stump grinder, tractors with attachments, & vehicles.
Hours:
· Monday – Friday, 7:00 a.m. to 3:30 p.m.
· Schedule may vary to include nights, weekends, and/or holidays.
Starting Pay DOQ EOE:
· $19.73-20.72/hr.
· $41,038-43,098/yr.
· Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.
Paid Time Off:
· 48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
· 96 hours of sick leave during first year.
