The City of Salina is seeking dependable, energetic part-time Sports Officials to oversee youth & adult basketball, soccer, & volleyball games. This is a flexible opportunity for individuals who enjoy sports, working with people, & contributing to a positive community experience. Sports Officials play an important role in promoting teamwork, sportsmanship, healthy competition, & active lifestyles for Salina residents. Help make Salina’s recreational sports programs safe, fair, & fun.

What You’ll Do:

• Officiate youth & adult basketball, soccer, and/or volleyball games.
• Apply game rules fairly, consistently, & confidently.
• Monitor games for safe participation, sportsmanship, & compliance with program policies & procedures.
• Make timely decisions on fouls, violations, possession, scoring, penalties, misconduct, & other game situations.
• Communicate rules, calls, & expectations clearly to players, coaches, parents, spectators, & fellow officials.
• Conduct pre-game reviews or meetings as needed & help maintain an organized game environment.
• Inspect courts, fields, & equipment for safety concerns before play; assist with equipment setup & takedown when needed.
• Manage conflicts professionally & use sound judgment to resolve issues during games.
• Keep game records & complete accident, incident, & other required reports.
• Recognize injuries, administer basic first aid when needed, & respond to emergencies within the scope of training.

What We’re Looking For:

• Knowledge of basketball, soccer, volleyball, or a willingness to learn.
• Ability to stay focused in fast-paced game situations & make quick, impartial decisions.
• Strong communication, customer service, teamwork, problem-solving, & conflict-management skills.
• Ability to work effectively with youth, adults, coaches, parents, & other community members.
• Prior officiating, sports-program volunteer, or experience working with children is preferred, but not required.
• Applicants for basketball & volleyball must attend a City-sponsored training/clinic and/or obtain sport-specific certification before the league season. Soccer officiating experience is preferred but not required.

Minimum Qualifications:

• Must be fourteen (14) years old or older.
• Minimum eighth-grade education; high school diploma or GED preferred.
• Ability to maintain the agility & endurance needed to officiate active, fast-paced games.
• CPR, First Aid, & AED certifications are desired.
• Must successfully pass required background checks.
• This is a non-driving position.

Schedule:

• Flexible, part-time hours.
• Work is primarily scheduled during evenings & weekends.
• Seasonal opportunities are available throughout the year, depending on sport & program needs.
• Employees who are 14 years old may be scheduled between 7:00 a.m. & 7:00 p.m.; from June 1 through Labor Day, they may be scheduled between 7:00 a.m. & 9:00 p.m.

Pay is based on sport, qualifications, & assignment:

• Basketball: $28.00–$32.00 per game
• Soccer: $24.00–$28.00 per game
• Volleyball: $22.00–$26.00 per game
