Entry to Mid-Level Positions:
RECREATION ASSISTANT I & II
Key Responsibilities:
• Greet & assist patrons at the Municipal Golf Course Pro Shop.
• Provide program & class information.
• Manage transactions for green fees, rentals, & pro shop sales.
• Reserve & assign tee times for golfers, ensuring smooth operations.
• Work concessions & maintain general cleanliness around the pro shop.
• Perform outdoor duties including operating utility vehicles, picking up golf balls, & cleaning carts.
•Assist the First Tee Director in organizing the First Tee Program for youth development & sportsmanship, including coaching & mentoring young participants.
• Model First Tee’s 9 Core Values, partake in outreach programs, & maintain equipment & facilities.Â
Qualifications:
Recreation Assistant I:
• Must be 14-16 years of age (for non-driving roles) or 17 years old with a valid driver’s license.
• Minimum eighth-grade graduate; CPR & First Aid certification preferred.
• Must pass background checks.
• Experience in customer service or sales with skills in money handling & basic computer use.
• Must have a general knowledge of golf.
• Ability to work in fluctuating temperatures, especially above 90 degrees.
Recreation Assistant II:
• Must be 18 years of age or older with a high school diploma or GED; college education is a plus.
• Must possess a valid driver’s license.
• Must pass background checks.
• Preferable experience includes prior work in a similar role, youth development, coaching, or as a credentialed educator.
• Solid understanding of golf, its rules, & etiquette is expected.
Desired Attributes for Both Roles:
• Self-motivated & able to work independently.
• Strong problem-solving skills & good judgment.
• High standards of customer service, maintaining positive interactions with diverse age groups.
• Excellent communication skills in both verbal & written formats.Â
Pay:
• Recreation Assistant I: $7.25 – $8.75/hr.
• Recreation Assistant II: $8.75 – $10.50/hr.
Hours:
• Flexible schedule; 10 to 15 hours/week; mornings and/or afternoon shifts available.
• Monday – Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.; 40 hours/week available.
• May include weekends based on golf course programs.
• Must be able to work evenings, weekends and/or holidays (i.e. Memorial Weekend, Fourth of July, Labor Day Weekend) & special events (i.e. Smoky Hill River Festival, private parties).Â
