Field Mechanic

Under the direct supervision of the mechanic superintendent or foreman.  Incumbent provides skilled mechanical maintenance and repair services in addition to the following duties. Job requires extended periods away from home (at least 75% of the time).Supervisory Responsibility:

Occasionally will fill in for foremen or superintendents. Assists with training of subordinates.Duties and Responsibilities:

• Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.  Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
• Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
• Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
• Must be able to comprehend & pass various safety training modules. Clean driving record & being able to obtain DOT medical card for driving non-CDL company vehicles is preferred.

• High school diploma or general education degree (GED); or one to three years related experience and/or training; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently exposed to moving mechanical parts, extreme heat, and vibration.  The employee is occasionally exposed to wet and/or humid conditions; high, precarious places; fumes or airborne particles; toxic or caustic chemicals; outside weather conditions; extreme cold; risk of electrical shock; and explosives.  The noise level in the work environment is moderate to loud.
