The Animal Services Coordinator plays a pivotal role in ensuring the well-being of the community’s furry residents by coordinating essential animal services & managing staff, both critical to Salina’s Parks & Recreation’s mission. This position assists in leading animal service operations, ensuring compliance with regulations, managing day-to-day operations & budgets, as well as fostering partnerships with local agencies to enhance animal care & control efforts. The coordinator also motivates adoption initiatives & collaborates with volunteer organizations, serving as a key community liaison that strengthens public interest & positive relations. A valid Kansas driver’s license is required, along with relevant experience that ensures effective team coordination & efficient operations.

Duties:
· Acts as Animal Services Manager and/or Operations Manager in the absence of the Animal Services Manager and/or Operations Manager respectively; signs search warrants & issues citations in accordance with City ordinance.
· Coordinates work schedule for Animal Services Staff & volunteers; approves payroll timesheets; works with confidential information regarding personnel, operations, & actions within the office.
· Assists with budget preparation & management; oversees daily cash flow & deposits, monitors expenses; accounts for all fees & donations; coordinates division purchasing.
· Ensures office efficiency by planning & executing equipment procurement, layouts, & office systems.
· Coordinates the development & implementation of office policies by setting up & maintaining operational procedures & standards; initiates & establishes improvements in methods & procedures.
· Maintains records & compiles reports; handles correspondence; coordinates office mailings; maintains files & systems.
· Ensures inspections or investigations are in accordance with regulatory agencies.
· Coordinates & maintains the D.E.A. (Drug Enforcement Agency) standards for the handling & documentation of controlled substances.
· Confers with state & local agencies & officials concerning animal care & control methods, procedures, & issues.
· Works with the veterinarian to schedule & prepare for surgery; ensures the facility is properly supplied & ready for surgery which includes drawing up medications for surgery, injections, drawing blood, & intubation of animals.
· Performs and/or supervises euthanasia as required; investigates potential rabies & other exposures.
· Handles animal control issues as needed & applies the use of force as necessary.
· Encourages, promotes & facilitates adoptions, plans for & coordinates efforts with volunteer organizations.

Education:
· High school diploma or G.E.D.
· Module A & B of National Animal Care & Control Association training & current certification in chemical capture & proven proficiency on euthanasia methods verified & approved by a licensed veterinarian within six (6) months from start date of employment.

Experience:
· Two (2) years of experience working as an Animal Control Officer or in a related field.
· Experience working as a veterinary technician is desirable.

Requirements:
· Must live within 40-minute response time.
· Must possess a valid Kansas driver’s license.

Work Type: Medium, exerting up to 50 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 20 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 10 pounds of force constantly to move objects.

Machines, Tools, Equipment: Animal Services equipment, calculator, computer, fax machine, scanner, telephone, two-way radio, & vehicles.

Hours:
· Works variable schedule including evenings and weekends, as needed.
· Variable hours Monday – Friday; weekends as needed.

Starting Pay DOQ:
· $21.96 -23.06/hr.
· $45,677-47,965/yr.
· Additional $1.50/hour paid for hours worked after 6:00 p.m. & before 6:00 a.m.

Paid Time Off:
· 48 hours of vacation available upon hire; additional 48 hours earned during the year (96 hours in first year).
· 96 hours of sick leave during first year.
